The shoulder is a highly mobile joint, providing the human body with a wide range of motion. It owes its flexibility to a group of four muscles and their tendons known as the rotator cuff.

Shoulder pain can arise due to various factors, including swelling, damage, or bone changes around the rotator cuff. Activities such as lifting the arm above your head or moving it forward or behind your back may trigger discomfort.

One common cause of shoulder pain is the entrapment of rotator cuff tendons under the bony area within the shoulder. This can result in inflammation or damage to the tendons, a condition referred to as rotator cuff tendinitis or bursitis.

Additionally, shoulder pain can stem from other sources, such as arthritis within the shoulder joint, the presence of bone spurs in the shoulder area, a broken shoulder bone, dislocation of the shoulder, or the development of a frozen shoulder. The latter occurs when the muscles, tendons, and ligaments within the shoulder become stiff, leading to difficulty and pain during movement. Overuse or injury of nearby tendons, including the bicep muscles of the arms, and tears in the rotator cuff tendons are also potential causes. Furthermore, poor shoulder posture and mechanics can contribute to shoulder pain.

It's worth noting that while you may feel pain specifically in the shoulder, the source of this pain could originate from other areas of the body, such as the chest, abdomen, thigh, or pelvis. A comprehensive assessment is crucial for determining the underlying causes and achieving effective results.

By conducting a thorough evaluation, we can gain insights into the root issues causing your shoulder pain and tailor a treatment plan accordingly. Identifying any related factors and addressing them holistically can lead to improved outcomes and relief from discomfort.
